Kex Gill update - 26.04.24

Published: 29 April 2024

Following the preparatory work, the machinery required to carry out the extensive repair scheme on the A59 at Kex Gill has now been installed on-site.

The crane needed to carry out the repair weighs some 100 tonnes and is crucial to driving long sheets of steel into the ground to create a structural wall.

Once this has been completed, we will fill in the excavated area between the steel sheets and the road to provide strength and stability.

There will be extended working hours, as well as weekends to ensure the road is reopened as soon as possible. We anticipate this to be before the end of June, subject to any unforeseen delays.

We would like to thank you once again for your patience and reiterate that we are doing all we can to complete the repair as quickly and safely as possible.

Previous updates on the repair scheme can by found be selecting the links below.

We also plan on holding a drop-in session in the coming weeks, and will endeavour to let you know more soon. If you'd prefer not to be kept informed about the repair scheme, as well as the realignment project, please let us know.

As mentioned previously, road users are being advised to follow the diversion route in place, which is via the A658, A660 and A65 (or by this route reversed). Signage is in place along this route reminding people of the closure and that businesses remain open.
